Zg Data Engineering Meetup - May Edition
Join us for a recap of the first VIS Solutions Data Engineering Meetup, where data professionals gathered in Zagreb to exchange real-world insights, discuss modern data challenges, and connect with the local community.

At VIS Solutions, we've spent years building data pipelines, designing warehouses, and migrating systems from on-prem to cloud. But last week, we did something a little different—we hosted a Data Engineering Meetup.
Yes, live. With actual people. And snacks.
On May 22nd, we gathered at ZICER (Zagreb Innovation Centre) for the very first edition of this new meetup series, created for data professionals who are tired of the same old slide decks and hungry for some hands-on, real-world knowledge sharing. The response? Better than we hoped. The Accelerator Hall was buzzing from the start, and the conversations were as lively as the finger food.
We opened the evening with a short intro from Dijana Kolar, who presented LuminaryIT, a service built to connect top-tier freelancers with companies who need them (we may or may not already have a few names on our list).

Then our very own Miljenko Vuković took the stage with a talk on Automatic DWH Migration, sharing lessons learned from real-life cloud migrations. Spoiler: not everything is as “plug and play” as the brochures promise — but it can be done cleanly, and smartly.

The CROZ crew followed up with a deep dive into data anonymization. Their scalable, AI-driven solution handles sensitive data across structured and unstructured sources—a must-have in an age of rising privacy expectations and tightening regulations.
After the official part wrapped, we crossed the street to Lex Bar, where the ideas kept flowing - along with the drinks.
This was just the beginning. We're planning to make this meetup a regular thing, and next time we hope to see even more data engineers join in, whether to share their own stories or just listen in and grab a beer.

Big thanks to ZICER for hosting, to our speakers for delivering, and to everyone who showed up and made the evening genuinely valuable. Let's keep this momentum going.
If you're into data engineering and based anywhere near Zagreb—keep an eye out. We're just getting started.
