ODI ETL Generator: Accelerate Development Through Automation

ODI ETL Generator

In the last couple of blog entries, we dealt mainly with stored procedure generation. But what if our target ETL technology is a standard ETL tool? Like Oracle Data Integrator, MS SQL Server Integration Services, or dbt?

The point of our proprietary file with ETL specification is not to generate ETL in just one technology. Its purpose is to generate ETL in ANY technology.

In this Blog post, I will show you how to generate ODI mappings using EPIC Ingenioso.

The source is again our standard SQL style file with SELECT, FROM, PARAMETERS, FUNCTIONS and SOURCES section. Note that it can be automatically generated. And it usually is.

ODI Specification

If we are migrating ETL from another technology - the source technologies include IBM DataStage, Stored Procedures, ODI itself. And we are adding even more sources all the time.

Even if you are drafting source database logic using SQL, you don't have to create the file manually. Just parse the SQL using EPIC Ingenioso Source Parser – and there you go.

Now that we have specification, you might wonder how do we get ODI mapping from a spreadsheet?

Easy. Open EPIC Ingenioso Target Generator. Select file, click. And the magic happens.

EPIC ODI Target

Quite frankly, since I didn't work on this part of Ingenioso, even I am enchanted by how quickly and easily it works. Here you can see ODI mapping, generated directly in repository in just seconds.
